Mathieu chuckling in the woods

Mathieu's chuckling is currently my favorite thing he does. The video below is from a rest stop we took to change his diaper while hiking. He was in such a good mood! We were all cracking up at his continual little laughs. The microphone on my camera isn't that good, so believe me, in real life he doesn't sound like a hen clucking.

Baptism

On Saturday, June 20th, Mathieu was baptised. Father Matt performed the ceremony. He is an old friend of Sue's and was also the one to marry us. If you ask anyone that was present, they would say the baptism was an intimate and meaningful time together. There were about 30 people, almost all family. That was part of the beauty of it. Not only were these people all present at our wedding, but they have been a major part of Sue's life since she was born, and they will all know Mathieu his whole life as well. Also, Father Matt explained the meaning behind each part of the baptism ceremony. It was not just a ritual; it was a beautiful time where everyone was focused on Mathieu and how God will be with him in his life. In the picture is Mathieu's Godparents: Uncle Paul Hebert and cousin Amie Richard.

Trip to Rhode Island

On June 17th Mathieu took his first plane trip up to Rhode Island. We went to visit Sue's family and had Mathieu's baptism. The plane worked out fine with the help of frequent nursings. Mathieu gained new friends with all the adults sitting around him. The only problem occurred when we were too occupied with Mathieu as we left the plane and forgot a library book in the front pocket of our seat.

Sue has so many family members and friends in Rhode Island and Massachusetts that we found our social schedule much fuller than we normally experience on Tybee. Add to that all the great hikes we wanted to do and we had big plans for each day. But Mathieu taught us a valuable lesson. He is not a sack of potatoes that we can freely drag around wherever we want for as long as possible. After a few full days with Mathieu missing some quality naps and going to bed late, he was obviously struggling. We had to adjust our schedule now that we are parents and not try to do as much. Sue even stayed at home one entire day with Mathieu while I climbed a mountain with Dad so that Mathieu could enjoy just sitting around on the grass in the backyard and napping when he needed it. This may seem like a small thing, but this was a new change to our vacation ideas. We still were able to see family and friends every day. Of course, Mathieu is a big hit and received much love. His aunts, uncles, grandparents, great greatparents and cousins now know him, and he also was able to experience lush green grass and New England hiking --which means lots of rocks!

First Born Child

I am mesmerized by Mathieu. After he's awakened from a nap, nursed, and diaper changed, Mathieu is the most delightful being around. That's precisely the time when I don't want to leave him in the loving arms of someone else ... I might miss something! Even though Mathieu dishes out lots of smiles the whole day long, I want to be around to see more. Grandma and Grandpa Weber came for a visit last week, and they agree with me. Here are some pictures from their visit.

The new Wash Pod!

Most regular people hopefully think that placing their kid in a bucket would be inappropriate, but ... not if it's a Wash Pod! The Wash Pod might look like a regular plastic bucket to you and me, but I assure you, it is not. The Wash Pod is Mathieu's perfect size swimming pool! Here's how he looked the first moments we placed him it it. This is a great little contraption because it makes so much sense for an infant. It's confining enough that he can actually play in the water! Here's another picture of Mathieu becoming used to his new toy!
