Lower Falls is in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and the man who gave us directions from our rental said it was, "Just down the road...maybe 10 or 15 minutes." Famous last words. These vague directions coupled with lack of information on our map (detailed topographical map, not scenic tourist hot spots) almost made us turn back a few times, but finally, after almost an hour of driving, we spotted the above sign.
Lower Falls is where the Swift River has created a broad band of polished ledges and boulders, an area that boasts a series of rapids and natural swimming pools ... and natural water slides. Although sliding down rocks in an icy river sounds a tad dangerous, it wasn't. Thrilling, yes. The rocks were just as smooth as any plastic waterslide, even when you "bumped, bumped," your way down. All 5 of us did it. (Dave, John, Jeanne-Marie, David, and myself)
Good picture of the falls that I found online. We didn't slide off any ledges, but this picture offers the larger view of where we were.
